Turkey Trot 2009

It's that time of year again!

Me and my older (& taller) sister

My sisters and I participated in the Thanksgiving Day run/walk to raise funds for our local emergency food bank.

My sisters gearing up for the big race!

I want to encourage everyone to make your local turkey trot a family tradition! It's a great feeling to know that you're helping families who may not have the luxury of meals on a daily basis, let alone a Thanksgiving FEAST!

I've "ruined" pictures since I've been in preschool

And it's a great way to encourage exercise for the entire family. My good friend, Stingray, brought her guppies to participate in the Kids Quarter Mile Run. Each child received a blue ribbon of participation. Her girls were so EXCITED about their ribbons!

Ah! There's the one Mom would approve of!

The Lord blessed us with a beautiful day to enjoy this race. There was not a cloud in the sky! Although it was a bit crisp, we didn't stay frigid for long once we got moving on the course!

Hey look everyone! My friend "Hammy" found me!

Even though there were thousands of people gathered at the ballpark, I managed to see quite a few people that I know! My friend, Hammy, is one of the key people in my life who has encouraged me to seek a more active lifestyle! Something this unathletic wannabe is very THANKFUL for!

Me and Ham at the end

Oh and there's an AWESOME side effect to running or walking 3 or more miles on Thanksgiving Day.....

A GUILT FREE TURKEY DINNER!

Sushi with My Friend & Flat Stan

Stan admiring my freshly cut bangs.
He said they frame my face nicely. What do you think?

I went out to dinner with my very close friend, "Stingray", tonight. We were celebrating her birthday by partaking in a platter of sushi.

While we were enjoying our bowl of edamame, Stingray got a call from Mexican Lover, aka her husband. Mexican Lover works the night shift, so it's not uncommon for him to call and check in when I'm with her. The short one-sided conversation was pretty typical, until I heard her mumble, "Yeah, he's in my purse." I ignored it and gingerly sipped my Tokyo Tea.

When our platter of sushi arrived, out popped Stan. Flat Stanley to be exact. Ever heard of him? He's quite the world traveler. He came all the way from the east coast to visit us. And he's in to trying new things. He was attempting to eat sushi with chopsticks tonight, while Stingray snapped pictures like a paparazzo.

Stanley really gets around. Click HERE to learn about the Flat Stanley Project. There's even a gallery of Stan's globe trotting you may peruse.

Have any of you had the pleasure of meeting Flat Stanley? Or have your kids been involved in the project? Mine are too young. But it sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to learn. I'd love to hear your Flat Stanley stories.

Julie from My Life with Boys won the book give-away. I have a stack of books to mail you for the boys anyway. I'll just add it to that!

Go to Sleep.

Dear Little Lion,

It's 10:11 pm on Sunday night. You are still awake. Why are you still awake, sweet boy? I can hear you singing to yourself. And I believe I overheard you having an imaginary conversation on your invisible cell phone. My heart swells with love at the sound of your precious little voice babbling in your dimly lit room.

You've had a full day of chasing the dog, riding your tricycle, jumping on our bed and begging for "more choc-co-laaaate". You've screamed, cried and laughed today. You've been happy, sad, angry and surprised. You've also fought and shared with your big brother. Honey, you've been everything a 2 year old is known for, in one day. It's hard work being you.

Please, Little Lion, go to sleep. We'll have all day tomorrow to do it all again!

I love you so much, sweet boy.

Sweet Dreams,

Mommy
